ah, summer in roma – wondrous, blissful and searing hot. so scorching in fact, that in august half of the romans vacate their superb city and take ferie, a holiday at the sea. countless shops, restaurants and residences remind visitors of their summer sojourn with gated entrances and handwritten signage. street ways weeks prior full of bustle and harried business are left barren; shops tucked neatly behind impressive steely doors and cages.
yet, despite such a lockdown, roma’s splendor seeps out of the cervices of cobbled streets and the aromatic scent of vino. the eternal city is as always, full of inspiration and vibrant reminders of la dolce vita. from iconic images of the fontana di trevi, colosseo and vaticano to simple fruit stands, scooters, gurgling bambini and street art, august in roma is ever so fair.
